Are the same bad things happening to you again and again?
It has been said that Einstein is the source of the following quote but what little research I have carried out doesn’t corroborate that, but in any event, it’s a good adage to remember…
“Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result.”
What things are happening in your life over and over again that you don’t like?
If the saying above holds any truth for you, what can you do to change even something small to start to drive a wedge between those repeating behaviours.
When I have been reacting to other people’s behaviour or comments in a negative way in the past and I have noticed it was a repeating cycle, simply noticing it was happening was a change.
Waking up to the fact it is happening is the first step to being able to start making changes.
They don’t need to be big changes either.
Having the intention to listen more carefully and hear things without judging them helped me through several situations of repeating negativity.
Really listening is an art that sometimes we don’t practise. Really listening means not waiting for the person you are ‘listening’ to to stop to breathe and then talking and thinking about what you are going to say next when doing it. Actually listening to the words that are being said and letting them sink in so that we know what the person is talking about properly shows respect and enables understanding. Taking time to digest those words and only then carrying on the conversation ensures the person who is talking knows they are being listened to.
What other things can you change? Ask yourself that question and wait in silence and see what you come up with. Ask that question when you are somewhere quiet and just wait. You may be surprised what you might hear from you sub conscious.
